High-flying Atletico Madrid travel to the Estadio El Alcoraz to take on newly-promoted Huesca, looking to build on a stunning La Liga start.
The hosts have started their La Liga campaign with a whimper rather than a bang, failing to pick up all three points in the opening three league fixtures (D2, L1). Low scoring has been a theme across those matches, as each has featured under 2.5 goals and precisely one at half-time. However, Estadio El Alcoraz has been a venue of entertainment this calendar year, as 63.64% (seven) of Huesca’s 11 competitive games held here have produced over 2.5 goals, with the ‘Azulgranas’ netting 2+ goals on eight of those occasions. Also, the last time Huesca competed in La Liga (back in 2018/19), the majority (52.63%) of their top-flight home matches contained over 2.5 goals.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid announced their title ambitions by brushing aside Granada 6-1 at home in their La Liga curtain-raiser. Another landslide victory is well on the cards now, as ‘Los Rojiblancos’ have won both of their only previous top-flight H2Hs via the identical 3-0 scoreline. Remarkably, last weekend’s success has brought Atletico’s unbeaten run in La Liga to 17 (W10, D7), 2019/20 included. In a reflection of a true ‘Diego Simeone’ grit running through their veins, the Madrid giants have won seven of those ten games without conceding a goal. In turn, Atletico Madrid’s last season haul of just 16 league goals allowed away from home was the division’s second-best, with seven of their 19 La Liga trips yielding a clean sheet.
