Eintracht Braunschweig welcome Hertha BSC to the Eintracht-Stadion in the DFB Pokal round of 64, hoping to bring a four-game losing run in their competitive H2Hs to a halt.
The hosts finished third in the 3. Liga last term to secure promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. ‘Die Löwen’ endured mixed fortunes down the final stretch of the 2019/20 campaign (W3, L2), with all five of those results (wins/losses) yielding a narrow one-goal margin. But, three of their last competitive fixtures have all seen over 4.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Peter Vollmann’s men have been nothing short of outstanding at home this calendar year, winning all but two of their eight competitive home matches (D2), with four of those triumphs coming despite a -1 handicap. However, Braunschweig have lost three of their last five competitive clashes against Hertha held at this venue (W1, D1), though that single win arrived in this precise competition.
Meanwhile, the visitors finished the last season with a whimper rather than a bang, losing four of their final five competitive encounters (W1) despite trailing at the break only once across those meetings (HT: W2, D2, L1). Hertha’s away games in 2020 have been notably tight, with eight of nine producing a full-time margin of under 1.5 goals (W3, D3, L3). Yet, high scoring has been a theme during that nine-game sequence, as seven of those fixtures have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams hit the net. But, Hertha’s defensive woes have seen them fail to keep a clean sheet in eight of those nine matches, conceding over 1.5 goals five times in the process.
