Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers will face off against each other at Stamford Bridge in a high-stake Premier League season finale this weekend.
Frank Lampard’s men enter the round on the back of a 5-3 away defeat to Liverpool and are just one point clear of fifth-placed Leicester City ahead of the kick-off. Notably, none of Chelsea’s eight Premier League games post restart has ended in a draw (W5, L3), with five of those results (win/loss) yielding a narrow one-goal margin. But, the Blues have racked up a five-game winning run at home in the Premier League warming up for this clash and have also won five of their last six competitive H2Hs held in London (D1). Importantly, four of their five successes across those H2Hs were accompanied by a blank sheet, which has been true in seven of Chelsea’s ten Premier League home wins this campaign.
As for the visitors, they come into this encounter frantically looking over their shoulders at seventh-placed Tottenham that sit just a single point adrift of Wolves ahead of the final matchday. Significantly, one of the Wanderers’ eight Premier League fixtures since the resumption of football has ended in a draw (W5, L2), with each of those seven results seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. Moreover, 16 of Wolves’ 18 league trips this term have ended separating the sides by less than two goals (W7, D7, L4) despite 11 seeing both teams find the back of the net. Also, despite conceding the opening goal (if any) in 11 of 18 Premier League trips, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side returned a league-high 15 points from applicable matches (W4, D3, L4).
