Stamford Bridge is the venue as Chelsea and Liverpool go head-to-head in a massive, heavyweight Premier League clash.
Fresh from a 3-1 away win over Brighton on Matchday 1, new-look Chelsea will be looking to bring a three-game losing run in their Premier League H2Hs to a halt. Interestingly, each defeat saw the ‘Blues’ concede over 1.5 goals, which was the case in just five (26.32%) of 19 home league matches last season. But, Frank Lampard’s men developed a habit of falling behind without responding, as they allowed the opponents to take the lead in five Premier League home fixtures in 2019/20 without returning a single point. The ‘both-teams-score’ theme remains very much on the cards, though, given eight of their previous nine Premier League H2Hs held at this venue have seen both sides find the back of the net.
As for the visitors, they opened the new season with a tight 4-3 home win over newly-promoted Leeds United that saw both teams score in both halves. Liverpool’s away fixtures during their triumphant 2019/20 campaign were pretty much entertaining to watch, as 13 (68.42%) of their 19 league games on the road produced over 2.5 goals. Jurgen Klopp’s men impressed defensively more than any other side last season, keeping a clean sheet in a league-high eight Premier League away matches (42.11%), and were the only side not to allow over 20 goals on the road for the entire campaign (17). That might change here, as they take on a team they’ve failed to shut out in all nine of their previous top-flight away H2Hs.
