Caen’s chances of avoiding the Ligue 1 relegation could suffer a major blow as they welcome the undisputed leaders Paris Saint-Germain to the Stade Michel d’Ornano.
Winless in their last eight league outings (D3, L5), the hosts sit 18th in the table with a four-point deficit to 17th-placed Amiens. What’s more, Fabien Mercadal’s men have lost three consecutive L1 home clashes before playing out a goalless draw with Strasbourg, as they remain one of three teams to secure just two home wins in 13 league fixtures so far (W2, D5, L6). The main reason for Caen’s struggling is their weak offensive output, as they’ve barely bagged 11 goals at home this term at a miserly average of 0.85 goals scored per match. Another significant thing Mercadal should take into consideration is that his side failed to wrap up all three points in eight successive H2H home clashes with PSG (D2, L6), scoring barely one goal in five of their previous H2H meetings at this venue.
Meanwhile, the visitors’ impressive run of form has seen the putting together seven consecutive wins across all competitions. In that period, the Parisians have scored 18 goals, allowing just one in the process. The reigning holders have virtually secured back-to-back Ligue 1 titles, currently sitting 17 points above second-placed Lille having one game in hand. As a result, Thomas Tuchel’s men were able to afford a luxury of dropping seven points on their last five L1 road trips (W2, D2, L1). However, PSG’s tally of 27 goals notched in 11 games away from home is by far the league’s high, while they remain the only team to concede under ten goals on the road so far (9). Moreover, the French champions have been ruthless against teams in the bottom-five, scoring 27 goals while conceding just one in six meetings this campaign.
