Liverpool will look to maintain 100% start to the new Premier League (PL) season when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor this weekend.
The hosts have struggled to build on a 3-0 home win over Southampton in the PL curtain-raiser having failed to replicate the same performance in the last two league fixtures (D1, L1). Both of those games have seen Burnley score in the first 45 minutes and concede precisely one goal beyond the hour mark. None of the Clarets’ last eight PL home matches has ended in a draw (W4, L4), with five of those games being settled by a two-goal margin (W3, L2). Still, it will be a daunting prospect for Burnley to pick up a win here, as they’ve lost four of their last five PL H2Hs with Liverpool (D1, L4). An encouraging fact for the home side though is that their only top-flight win over Liverpool came at home three years ago.
Meanwhile, the visitors got off to a flying start in the PL by putting together three wins, all of which have seen them score two or more goals and concede precisely one. A 2-1 away win over Southampton last time out was Liverpool’s fifth straight in the PL and also the fifth consecutive in which they’ve scored at least two goals. Along with Manchester City, the Reds collected more away points than any other PL side last season (44) having suffered just one defeat in 19 PL trips in the 2018/19 league campaign (W13, D5, L1). What’s more, the Merseyside giants have clinched four wins in five PL visits here (W4, L1), netting 2+ match goals three times across those meetings.
