Relegated Brescia entertain Sampdoria at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti for the final fixture of the 2019/20 Serie A season, with both sides looking to rectify their mistakes from the previous three rounds.
Indeed, a 2-0 away defeat to Lazio during the midweek means the hosts have suffered three consecutive league defeats heading into the season finale, conceding over 1.5 goals on all of those occasions. In turn, Brescia’s defensive flaws have seen them allow the division’s second-high 78 Serie A goals this season on an average of 2.1 goals conceded per league game. Additionally, ‘Le Rondinelle’ have done virtually nothing to improve that infamous record post restart, shipping an average of 2.63 goals since the resumption of football. Lapses in concentration in the late stages have seen Brescia’s defense break down on or beyond the 70-minute mark in five of their last seven league outings.
The visitors have also sustained three Serie A defeats in a row in the build-up to this trip, conceding at least once in both halves in each of those failures. Curiously, none of Sampdoria’s last nine league trips have ended in a draw (W4, L5), with each of those results (wins/losses) seeing the winner on the day score at least two goals. Moreover, slow-starting Sampdoria have allowed the opening goal (if any) in 66.67% of their Serie A away games this campaign (12/18), eventually losing nine such fixtures (W3). That’s also because the ‘Blucerchiati’ lament the division’s joint-low tally of just four first-half goals scored away from home. Interestingly, though, three of those four goals have come since the restart.
