Borussia Mönchengladbach and Wolfsburg go head-to-head at the Borussia-Park this midweek, as the home side look to bring a three-game winless run in their Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs to a halt (D1, L2).
The hosts have lost three of six BL fixtures since the league’s restart (W2, D1), including the last two, as they enter this round trailing fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen by one point. Yet, Mönchengladbach’s matches in the post-pandemic period have seen a lot of excitement, with four of their six games since German football returned to action featuring over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Another high-scoring affair is on the cards here, given that six of their last seven top-flight H2Hs with Wolfsburg have produced at least three goals. In turn, each of Mönchengladbach’s four previous league home matches has witnessed over 2.5 goals and both teams score (W2, L2), with each of those results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day open the scoring in the first half.
Meanwhile, although they’ve endured mixed fortunes in the post-pandemic period (W3, D1, L2), the visitors have been an exciting side to watch, considering that four of those six matches have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. But, Oliver Glasner’s men have been impressive away from home lately, putting together six consecutive BL trips without a loss (W5, D1). Indeed, they’ve notched up over 1.5 goals in all but one of those six games, although they’ve managed to keep a clean sheet only once. Wolfsburg’s attack on the road usually sparks into life after the halftime break, with 64% (16) of their total 25 BL away goals scored so far coming in the second half of play.
