Two Bundesliga (BL) veterans do battle at the Signal Iduna Park this weekend as Borussia Dortmund take on Bayer Leverkusen in a clash that promises fireworks.
The hosts have suffered a shock 3-1 away loss to the newly-promoted Union Berlin on the eve of the international break, bringing their 100% start to a halt. Before that failure, Die Schwarzgelben have secured back-to-back BL triumphs, both of which have seen them score three or more goals and concede precisely one. Also, the Signal Iduna Park has been a venue of entertainment in 2019, as seven of Dortmund’s nine league games here since the turn of the year have produced over 3.5 goals and witnessed both teams score. Additionally, BVB have come out on top in all four of their previous home H2Hs with Bayern, netting three or more goals in each of those clashes while keeping a clean sheet twice in the process.
Meanwhile, the visitors have won both of their opening BL games by scoring precisely three goals and conceding at least once before being held to a goalless home draw by TSG Hoffenheim last time out. It was the first time since the mid-January that Leverkusen failed to find the back of the net, and it was also their first goalless league stalemate since October 2018. None of Bayer’s BL trips since the turn of the year has ended in a draw (W7, L2), with seven of those matches featuring over 3.5 goals and witnessing goals on both ends. Still, Die Werkself have struggled to beat Dortmund in all five of their previous BL H2Hs (D1, L4), conceding four or more goals in three of those clashes.
