Watford vs Southampton 28/06/20

28 June 2020

Watford and Southampton go head-to-head at Vicarage Road this weekend, as the home side hope to bring a four-game winless run in their Premier League H2Hs to a halt (D3, L1).

The hosts have won just once in their last nine Premier League fixtures (D3, L5), drawing a blank in four of those games while scoring precisely once in three of the other five. Indeed, Watford enter this round frantically looking over their shoulders as they sit only one-point clear of relegation-threatened Bournemouth. But, far more comfortable on home turf, the Hornets have avoided defeat in seven of their last eight league home matches (W4, D3), keeping a clean sheet on five of those occasions. Still, it will be a daunting prospect for Watford to pick up three points here, considering they’ve failed to beat Southampton in six of their last competitive home H2Hs (D3, L3).

Meanwhile, the visitors are going through a rough time, having lost three of their last four Premier League games (W1), with three of those results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day keep a blank sheet. Away from home in the Premier League, none of Southampton’s last eight matches has ended in a stalemate (W5, L3), with the winning side across those fixtures consistently scoring at least twice. But, the Saints desperately need to improve their second-half performances, given that the majority (71.43%) of their away league goals conceded came after the break (15/21).
