Strasbourg vs Nice 30/08/20
30 August 2020
Strasbourg will be looking to rectify their mistakes from the Ligue 1 opener when they take on Nice at the Stade de la Meinau this weekend.
Despite taking a first-half lead against newly-promoted Lorient, Strasbourg succumbed to a 3-1 away defeat in their Ligue 1 curtain-raiser. Bringing their results from the final stage of the last league season into the equation, the hosts are now winless in four matches (D2, L2), scoring under 1.5 goals on all of those occasions. But, just 27.27% (3) of Strasbourg’s 11 top-flight defeats last season arrived on home soil, which is the sort of statistic they will be looking to dwell on ahead of this clash. Additionally, ‘Les Coureurs’ have won both of their previous home Ligue 1 H2Hs ‘to nil,’ which was the case in 42.86% of their home league wins last season (3/7).
As for Nice, they performed a comeback to beat newly-promoted Lens 2-1 at home on the opening matchday, stretching their unbeaten Ligue 1 run to five, last season included (W3, D2). But, the visitors failed to meet the expectations away from home in 2019/20 (W3, D4, L6), finishing the last season with a -5 road goal difference (GF:13, GA:18). In fact, they had scored under 1.5 goals in ten of 11 top-flight trips before the season was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Their recent fortunes at the Stade de la Meinau suggest ‘Les Aiglons’ may continue to struggle for goals. Indeed, Nice have either drawn a blank or scored once per match in ten of their last 11 competitive trips to Strasbourg.
