Sevilla vs Real Madrid 24/09/19

24 September 2019

Weekend’s La Liga (LL) action concludes with a blockbuster clash at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán where Sevilla take on the struggling Real Madrid side.

Both sides are unbeaten in the league this term, with the hosts currently topping the table with a record of three wins and a draw, while the visitors registered partial success of two wins and a pair of stalemates. When these two teams meet in the league, the entertainment is 100% guaranteed, as 12 of their previous 13 LL H2Hs featured over 2.5 goals.

A frustrating 1-1 home stalemate with Celta Vigo aside, Los Hispalenses have won each of their remaining three LL matches to nil, twice by the identical 1-0 scoreline. While Los Rojiblancos boast the best defensive record in LL so far (one goal conceded), Julen Lopetegui should be worried about the fact his players have yet to find the net inside the opening 35 minutes this term. Interestingly, two of four goals Sevilla have bagged this term have come beyond the 80th minute as well as the only goal they’ve allowed. But, impressively, they have secured four consecutive LL home wins over Real Madrid ahead of this fixture, netting 2+ match goals each time while keeping a clean sheet once.

As for the visitors, they go into this meeting off the back of a disastrous 3-0 away loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, which was the first time this season that they’ve failed to find the back of the net. It was also their ninth straight competitive match in which they’ve struggled to keep a blank sheet and sixth in that sequence in which they’ve allowed 2+ goals. The one thing that can encourage Zinedine Zidane ahead of this trip is Los Blancos’ attacking output since the turn of the 2019/20 LL campaign, as they’ve already netted nine league goals, scoring over 1.5 match goals in three of four LL outings this term.
