Nimes vs Olympique Lyonnais 25/05/19

25 May 2019

Nimes and Olympique Lyonnais will face-off at the Stade des Costières in their final Ligue 1 fixture of the season.

Even though they won’t be playing in Europe next year, the hosts have enjoyed a stunning league campaign by their standards and will finish in the upper half of the table in their first year in the top flight since 1992-93. Les Crocodiles will be looking to take their good end of season form into this meeting having won three of their last five L1 outings (W3, D1, L1). What’s more, they are unbeaten at home in eight L1 games since mid-January (W6, D2), with Bernard Blaquart’s men netting 2+ match goals six times across those fixtures. Nimes’ matches have not been short of entertainment lately, with six of their previous seven league games producing over 2.5 goals.

Meanwhile, the visitors will have to battle their way into the Champions League group stage through the playoffs after securing the third place. Lyon’s sudden rise has seen them go from three consecutive defeats across all competitions to five games without a loss (W4, D1). Notably, Les Gones have scored over 1.5 match goals in all five of their previous L1 outings, keeping a clean sheet twice though. Additionally, Bruno Génésio’s players have clinched three triumphs on their last four L1 road trips (W3, L1), with three of those clashes featuring over 2.5 goals. Still, Lyon’s potential problem ahead of this showdown could be that they’ve struggled to preserve a blank slate in 14 of 18 L1 away games.
