Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers 12/05/19

12 May 2019

Encouraged by a stunning 4-0 home win over Barcelona in the Champions League, Liverpool return to the Premier League action as they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield for the final fixture of this PL campaign.

The hosts have entered the final game of the season sitting one point adrift of PL toppers Manchester City and a victory is a must for them if they look to overthrow the reigning holders. The Reds have not only won all eight of their previous PL outings, but they have also scored 2+ match goals across all of those clashes. What’s more, the Merseysiders remain the only PL side that has yet to suffer a defeat at home this term (W16, D2) having won all six of their last PL home games. Notably, four of those wins have seen them beat their rivals to nil, with Jurgen Klopp’s men bagging 3+ match goals four times in the process. Also, no team has shipped fewer home goals than Liverpool (10) this year, with the Reds keeping 11 clean sheets in 18 PL home games so far.

Meanwhile, the visitors still hope to join the Europa League qualifiers as they currently sit seventh after securing three consecutive PL wins. The fact that the outcome of this encounter won’t change anything for Wolves can comfort Nuno Espirito Santo, especially considering his team’s recent away displays. The Wanderers have picked up just one triumph on their last six PL road trips (W1, D2, L3), with the returnees scoring one goal or less five times across those clashes. Another troubling fact for the traveling side is that they’ve failed to preserve a clean slate in all 14 of their previous PL away games, allowing over 1.5 match goals four times though.
