Liverpool vs Leicester City 05/10/19
5 October 2019
Fresh from a 4-3 home triumph over Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League, Liverpool return to their Premier League (PL) commitments as they welcome Leicester City to Anfield this weekend.
So far so good for last season’s runners-up who have racked up seven wins from as many league matches this term. All but one of those triumphs have seen the Reds score two or more goals and take at least one-goal lead into halftime. Also, Liverpool’s tally of five goals conceded is the PL’s joint-best, with four of those goals arriving in the second half. Jurgen Klopp’s men have made Anfield their fortress, as their last PL home defeat dates back to April 2017. The Merseyside giants have not only avoided defeat in the last 44 PL home outings, but they’ve also put together ten league victories at Anfield ahead of this clash.
After enduring a torrid 2018/19 season, the visitors got the new PL campaign off to a flying start with four wins out of the opening seven league fixtures (W4, D2, L1). But, only one of those successes has come away from home – a 2-1 triumph over Sheffield United. The Foxes have, however, failed to secure a win in two visits to last season’s top-six sides, playing 1-1 with Chelsea and losing 1-0 to Manchester United. Leicester’s indifferent away form is unlikely to improve here, as they’ve sustained six defeats in their eight previous trips to Anfield (D2, L6), netting one goal or less seven times across those H2Hs.
