Hamburger SV vs Feyenoord 28/08/20
28 August 2020
Hamburger SV and Feyenoord go head to head at the Kufstein Arena for a pre-season friendly that will also be the first-ever meeting between these two sides.
Hamburger have transferred their poor form from the final stretch of the last season into their pre-season campaign, losing all three of their opening friendly fixtures after suffering back-to-back defeats in the closing stage of the 2019/20 2. Bundesliga campaign. ‘Die Rothosen’ have conceded over 1.5 goals in each of those failures, though four have seen them reply at least once. Notably, 63.16% of the goals scored/conceded across those matches have arrived after the half-time whistle (12/19). Daniel Thioune would now be desperate to see HSV rediscover their ‘killer instincts’ in front of the goal after witnessing his team notch under 1.5 goals in six of their previous seven outings.
As for Feyenoord, they’ve established themselves as a force to be reckoned with this calendar year. Dick Advocaat’s men have lost just one from 17 matches since the calendar flipped but none from the last 15 (W11, D4). Remarkably, all but one of those 11 triumphs have seen Feyenoord score over 1.5 goals, although only four have yielded a clean sheet. But, against the backdrop of sloppy defending, ‘De club aan de Maas’ have kept three clean sheets in five summer friendlies so far, restricting their opponent on the day to a maximum of one goal per match in the other two. Curiously, six of their eight goals scored during the off-season have arrived before the half-time break.
