Chelsea vs Newcastle United 19/10/19
19 October 2019
Chelsea host Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge this weekend, looking to break into the Premier League (PL) top four for the first time this season.
Chelsea’s four-game winning streak in all competitions has been intercepted by the international break, but the hosts have every intention to maintain momentum when they take on a struggling Newcastle side. The Blues’ have racked up a seven-game winning home streak in competitive H2Hs, netting 2+ goals in each of those matches while keeping a clean sheet four times in the process. However, Franck Lampard’s men have secured just one triumph in four PL home outings this term (D2, L1), conceding at least one goal in three successive league home games before beating Brighton 2-0. Lampard can, however, be encouraged by his team’s impressive scoring form ahead of the international window, as Chelsea bagged a total of 15 goals in their last four competitive matches.
The visitors have, meanwhile, clinched a vital 1-0 home triumph over Manchester United last time out to bring a four-game PL winless run to a halt (D2, L2). Interestingly, both of Newcastle’s league victories this term have come via the same 1-0 scoreline and have arrived against teams that finished in top-six last season (Man Utd and Tottenham). But, Steve Bruce is yet to solve Newcastle’s immense problems in the final third that have seen the Magpies score one goal or less in each of their eight PL games so far. Only rock-bottom Watford (4) have bagged fewer goals than Newcastle (5) this season, although three of their goals scored have come away from home.
