Canada vs Martinique 16/06/19
16 June 2019
Canada and Martinique will face-off at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena for the opening match of Group A at the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Canadians have qualified for the 14th time by finishing second in the CONCACAF Nations League qualifiers. They have won all four of their qualifying matches with a stunning +17 goal difference (S18, C1). Canada’s success in the qualifiers aside, they have won their last friendly encounter with Trinidad and Tobago 2-0, which helped them extend their winning run to six games. The Canucks’ last defeat dates back to October 2017, when they were outplayed by El Salvador 1-0, and it was also the last time that they’ve failed to find the net.
Just like Canada, Martinique had no problems achieving all four wins in the CONCACAF Nations League qualifiers, although their +8 goal difference left them once place behind their upcoming rivals. Interestingly, two of their triumphs in the qualifying process have ended with the same 1-0 scoreline, while Les Matinino netted precisely four goals per match in the remaining two allowing just one goal in the process. A potential problem for Mario Bocaly could be the fact that Martinique skipped the preparation period after beating Guadalupe in their last qualifying match back in March.
