Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester United 01/07/20

01 July 2020

Manchester United visit Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium this midweek, looking to post a third consecutive win in their Premier League H2Hs.

The hosts have endured an utterly underwhelming calendar year so far, picking up just a single triumph from 11 Premier League matches since the turn of 2020 (D7, L3). That’s mainly to their inability to score goals. Indeed, Brighton scored one goal or less in ten of those 11 league fixtures, drawing a blank in three of the last four. But, the Seagulls have been quite regular on the scoresheet at home lately, finding the net in five of their previous six league home games, with five of their seven goals scored across those clashes coming on or beyond the 75-minute mark. In fact, the majority (63.16%) of Brighton’s Premier League home goals netted this season arrived in the second half (12/19).

Meanwhile, the visitors travel to Brighton after racking up 14 consecutive games without a loss in all competitions (W9, D5) – 90 minutes only. Impressively, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men kept a clean sheet in ten of those 14 matches, restricting their rivals to a maximum of one goal per game in the other four. However, a lack of creativity in the final third has witnessed United score under 1.5 goals in four of their last five Premier League road trips (W1, D2, L2), with two of just four goals they scored across those fixtures arriving beyond the hour mark. The Red Devils will have to step up their game to improve their away form, especially given that they’ve lost both of their top-flight trips to Brighton in the 21st century.
