Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid 01/07/20

01 July 2020

In-form Atletico Madrid head to the Camp Nou to face Barcelona in a massive La Liga showdown, hoping to bring a 13-game winless run in La Liga H2Hs held at this venue (D3, L10).

Although unbeaten in six consecutive La Liga fixtures ahead of the kick-off (W4, D2), the hosts desperately need three points as they enter this round trailing table-toppers Real Madrid by two points. Perhaps surprisingly, but four of Barcelona’s last six league games have produced under 2.5 goals, with five seeing Barca keep a clean sheet. However, by far the best home side in Spain’s top-flight, the reigning champions won 15 of 16 La Liga matches held at this venue this season (D1), with nine of those victories producing a full-time margin of two goals or more. Also, quick-fire Barcelona have opened the scoring in 14 of 16 league home games so far (87.5%), which makes them the fastest home starters in the division.

Meanwhile, the visitors have racked up four successive La Liga triumphs ahead of this trip, three of which yielded a clean sheet, with the last three all producing a single-goal margin. Away from home in La Liga, Los Colchoneros have avoided defeat in five consecutive matches (W2, D3), with three of them featuring under 2.5 goals and three seeing Atletico take a one-goal lead into the halftime break (HT: W3, D1, L1). It will, nonetheless, be a daunting prospect for Atletico to improve their away record here, as they take on a Barcelona side they’ve lost to in 14 of their last 19 top-flight H2Hs (D5). The majority (64.52%) of Atletico’s La Liga away goals (scored/conceded) this season came in the second half of play (20/31).
