The Bundesliga (BL) returns to action after the international window as Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg come face-to-face at the BayArena.
The hosts have managed to bring their frustrating four-game BL winless streak to a halt on the eve of the international break with a 2-0 away triumph over Wolfsburg. It was the first time since late September that Die Werkself kept a clean sheet in Germany’s top-tier competition and only second in that sequence that they’ve scored over 1.5 match goals. However, Peter Bosz’s men have failed to clinch a home triumph since a 2-0 win over Union Berlin in September, playing out two draws in their last three BL home fixtures (D2, L1). Leverkusen now have a perfect chance to kick-start their BL home campaign as they take on a side they’ve not lost to in six of their previous league H2Hs at this venue (W5, D1). While four of those victories saw them keep a blank sheet, four have witnessed them bag at least two goals too.
Meanwhile, the visitors head to the BayArena on a run of three consecutive league matches without a loss (W2, D1), having pulled off a narrow 1-0 home triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt last time out. Christian Streich’s players are enjoying a strong start to the season, having won six of their opening 11 BL outings (D3, L2) and are currently sitting fourth in the standings, just four points adrift of table-toppers Borussia Monchengladbach. But, after securing three consecutive BL away wins, Freiburg’s dip in form has seen them collect only one point in their last two BL road trips. Frustratingly for the traveling fans, both of those games have witnessed Freiburg concede precisely two goals, one in each half.
