Atletico Madrid and Real Betis will face off against each other at the Wanda Metropolitano this weekend in what promises to be a low-scoring La Liga affair. Indeed, five of their last seven top-flight H2H meetings have featured under 1.5 total goals.
Unbeaten in 13 La Liga matches (W7, D6), the hosts will look to maintain an impressive league run when they lock horns with a side they’ve not lost to in six of their previous top-flight H2Hs here (W5, D1). Notably, Los Colchoneros have kept a clean sheet in five of those six H2Hs, which has been true in four of their last five La Liga victories. In turn, six of Atletico’s ten La Liga home triumphs this season have been accompanied by a clean sheet, as Diego Simeone’s men boast the division’s joint-best defensive home record (ten goals conceded). Also, Atletico have shown great ability to bounce back after shipping the opening goal – they won three of five La Liga home games in which they’ve conceded the opener (D1, L1).
As for the visitors, they’ve endured an underwhelming league campaign since the resumption of football in June (W2, D2, L4), conceding over 1.5 goals in four of eight La Liga fixtures in the post-pandemic period. What’s more, the Andalusian side are still chasing their elusive first La Liga away win in 2020, having lost five of nine league trips since the calendar flipped (D4). A genuine lack of goals is accountable to Betis’ disappointing away form this calendar year. Los Verdiblancos have netted one goal or less in eight of the abovementioned nine trips, with five of the six goals they scored across those clashes coming in the second half of play.
